Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, demons, and sinister influences growing in power within the city.

Note: Revealing details for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could help the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight players to form the Questers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
